Looking at healthcare

March 2nd, 2010 · 12 Comments · Insurance, health

I’m sure anyone reading this blog has been following the national healthcare debate.  Also if you read this blog, I mentioned that my cheap insurance company refuses to COVER my breast pump.  But I have been hounding them because they SHOULD.  Out of principal hell yes they should.  We pay premiums, we follow their damn [...]

Flex Spending Accounts

February 15th, 2010 · 2 Comments · Spending, health

You are able to contribute up to $5k/year to a flexible spending account.  This is different from a health savings account, which you own and are able to accrue money in tax free for medical premiums and expenses for your life.  What you put in grows tax free, but usually is with taxed money.  Then [...]

Added Baby Costs

January 26th, 2010 · 5 Comments · Children, Insurance

People are always talking about how much babies costs.  Honestly I haven’t found it to be so yet.  We’ve gotten a lot of free and used stuff from friends.  We’ve also been waiting to buy thing and seeing what we really need.  Our biggest expenses have been birthing and lactation classes.  That and me eating [...]

Buying Life Insurance

November 30th, 2009 · 13 Comments · Insurance

We’re starting to investigate buying life insurance outside of our jobs.  My DH has some from his job and we choose at open enrollment not to purchase more.  We probably will change our mind once the baby comes, but at the same time we are adding more supplemental life insurance not tied to his job.
Right [...]

Budgeting healthcare?

September 11th, 2009 · 15 Comments · Insurance, health

If we had to pay out of pocket for medical care, would you do things differently?  If we were expected to foot the bill for all procedures, including catastrophic medical bills, would that affect how you view healthcare?  If we treated healthcare not as a right, but as a bill to pay, would that affect [...]

Disability Insurance

July 23rd, 2009 · 12 Comments · Insurance

I mentioned last week that I was getting new auto, home, and umbrella insurance. I also said I was going to work on Life Insurance and disability.  Well I’m still working on life insurance, but I’ve found out a few things about disability insurance.
First of all it’s expensive.  Definitely not as cheap as life insurance.  [...]

Costco RULES!

July 15th, 2009 · 8 Comments · Insurance

Unfortunately my DH and I were kicked off our condo insurance.  Why?  Because last year we switched from our combination home, auto, and umbrella insurance to Progressive auto insurance and home insurance with Commerce.  Unfortunately Commerce won’t write home insurance without doing the auto insurance.  So I’ve had to start shopping for new home insurance [...]

Do you like your medical insurance?

July 9th, 2009 · 22 Comments · Insurance, health

I have fabulous medical insurance.  Ridiculously great benefits. We’ve chatted with our neighbors and friends and our benefits are superior in price and coverage.  Pretty much everything covered.  I have 24 chirovisit, vision and dental basic coverage, we pay extra for more coverage $7/month for vision and dental!  If we have a baby it’s $0 [...]

Flexible Spending Reminder

December 20th, 2008 · No Comments · Insurance, taxes

Remineder that we all have until 12/31/08 to spend the remainder in our flexible spending healthcare accounts before we lose it. Typically we have until 3/31/08 to file for reimbursement but we have to “spend” the expenses before the end of the year.
I have $25 left to spend. What can I buy? Well [...]
