I am not an anti-debt or anti-credit card blog. I use credit cards and I’ve had car loans. I prefer to not go into CC debt and I prefer to not have a car loan. But I can see purposes for both. I currently have student loan debt, and while many people will probably say [...]

Gas is on the rise
June 25th, 2009 · 11 Comments · Frugal, cars
Gas prices are on the rise again. The average price is $2.67/gallon. Yes it’s a lot lower than last year’s peak of $4.11/gallon. Last year I noticed a huge uptick in people riding public transit. It’s come way down this year and I haven’t seen an uptick yet.
But how will rising gas prices affect you? [...]
Underwater on a Car

I’m a huge proponent that you can’t get out of debt or follow a budget if you have budget busters. Typically these are too much house or too much cars. I don’t believe that cutting all the latte factors out, squeezing your grocery bill by $100 is the answer. If you have a $500 or [...]

December 10th, 2008 · 24 Comments · Investing, Purchases, Spending, cars
On Black Friday we decided to purchase a car stereo for $99 with free installation for my DH’s Ford Focus. It came out to $170 after taxes and buying cables to attach the stereo to the car. I thought wow pricy!
But here’s what it really bought me. Time. My DH loves [...]

SUV – dump or drive
July 11th, 2008 · 3 Comments · Debt, cars
Should you dump your SUV or drive it? An interesting perspective from the Boston Globe’s Terry Jackson.
He says keep the SUV if you are “upside down”. Meaning you owe more to the vehicle than you can sell it for. While there is short term pain, perhaps if you can get the vehicle down to the [...]
