Is the flat tax fair?

December 31st, 2009 · 2 Comments · taxes

Yesterday I talked about the fair tax, and today I want to talk about the flat tax.  I actually favor the flat tax just because it’s simpler solution to the problem. I’ve lived with the flat tax currently in the state I am in, and I honestly think it’s a very fair system.
We pay 5.3% [...]

Is the fair tax fair?

December 30th, 2009 · 5 Comments · taxes

Someone suggested switching from a federal income tax to a fair tax.  There are many websites on it including this one called Americans for the Fair Tax.  It’s a very interesting site, and tomorrow I’ll talk about the flat tax idea.
The fair tax basic premise is the idea that we should pay based on our [...]

Tax Credit versus Deduction

November 2nd, 2009 · 2 Comments · taxes

Last week I blogged about our home repairs blowing the budget.  But I also mentioned the tax credits were incentivizing me big time.  Then I realized I might want to explain why the tax breaks were so awesome.

TurboTax Review

May 3rd, 2009 · 2 Comments · taxes

I just wanted to quickly do a turbotax review.  We did our taxes at the last minute again.  We had done a rough calculation in March, but for some reason tax forms were still arriving in April.  This year we again used Turbotax Premier instead of paying a CPA.
Honestly?  I found it easy.  We imported [...]

Tax Calculator

March 14th, 2009 · No Comments · taxes

This is a neat website to quickly calculate your taxes.  I would not say it’s able to do all the intricate details that turbotax does, but it gives you a ballpark figure of what you might owe.  It also gives you the guidelines for how much to withhold or pay during the year.
I’ve tentatively finished [...]
