Sharing Frugality?

February 22nd, 2010 · 4 Comments · Frugal

Grace from Graceful Retirement wrote an interesting post about it’s a good time to be poor.  She talks about her friend who is discussing how much easier it is to be poor or retired living on a fixed income now, rather than say 10 years ago when her sister retired.  Now everyone is living on [...]

One up Frugal

January 15th, 2010 · 6 Comments · Children, Frugal

On the baby board, there is constantly people worrying about the cost of children.  Then inevitably a thread starts how much children cost.  How much should we be spending on our kids?  Is there a minimum?
So what’s funny?
Well then it turns into a game of one upmanship frugal.  In what way?  Well it starts out [...]

Restaurant.com isn’t frugal

December 8th, 2009 · 8 Comments · Frugal

Right now there are a lot of deals out there giving away restaurant.com gift certificates.  Motherhood is giving away a $50 gift certificate to Restaurant.com if you spend $75 at their store.  And trust me it’s easy to spend $75 on maternity clothes.  Some how it’s ridiculously expensive.
But why I don’t like or use restaurant.com. [...]

December 4th, 2009 · 20 Comments · Children, Frugal

I’ve been told that cloth diapers will save me a ton of money.  I’m just not sure whether it will or not.  A lot of cloth diapers have inserts much like disposable diapers.  They really aren’t cheaper and they are biodegradable and more environmentally friendly than normal disposables.  But they aren’t cheap at all.
With coupons [...]

Financial Savings

December 2nd, 2009 · 5 Comments · Frugal, Savings

I realized chatting with friends recently about saving money and how it’s been a really rough year financially for many people.  No raises, no bonuses, even furloughs for some has made money a lot tighter than normal.   So everyone has been belt-tightening through little and big savings.
It became apparent that I have two MAJOR financial [...]

November 27th, 2009 · 11 Comments · Frugal, gifts

Christmas is coming up fast and the season for going into debt and gift giving is about to start.  I really wonder if people are going to be spending again this year like economists are predicting? I think not, but that’s another post.
Here’s an interesting question are homemade gifts tacky or lovely?  Is it frugal [...]

Smart tips to affording a baby

November 13th, 2009 · 4 Comments · Children, Frugal, budgeting

A recent article in US World News and Report gives people 8 Tips to affording a baby.  Interesting list.  Currently we’re on a hiatus on baby spending, no diaper/wipes deals and no time to shop and look at stuff for our baby.  Plus I’m still waiting for more used stuff from friends before buying anything.  [...]

Is resale worth it?

November 11th, 2009 · 6 Comments · Free Money, Frugal

I talked about building my stockpile on Monday, well I need space obviously to fit everything.  Plus in general we have a lot of unused items in our house.  Here’s where an interesting question comes in…
Is it worth my time and effort to list things on craigslist and ebay for sale versus just donating it [...]
