Last night we were walking in the park and I found $20 on the ground. I thought it was garbage so I picked it up. Multiple people were ahead of us and kicked it around. My DH didn’t even notice, I just swooped down and picked up a crumpled mess. So what should I do?
Should I return it? How would I find someone? Or is it a reward for a good deed of picking up garbage? If it had been a wallet I would have mailed it back intact, I’ve gotten 3 wallets back I’ve “lost”. Good karma. So what should I do now?

$20 is small enough to keep it without guilt.

Yep. I agree with Barb. Why not just keep it or donate it if you feel bad?

If you feel guilty, then donate it to charity.

Well, sure, give it to charity, if you wish.
I really don’t understand why you should feel guilty, though. Guilty for what?

Return it to whom? How? Be happy with your little windfall and spend it - guilt free!

Maybe you donate it to the needy or you just keep it as it is only a small amount.

I got to give a large tip to a waitress. It was cool!

I’ve been on both ends of that dilemma. More than once, taken money out of the ATM and not stuffed it far enough into a pocket, only to find later that it was gone. Or it came out when I pulled out my gloves. Or whatever. I just consoled myself by hoping that whoever found it needed it more than I did!
I can’t think who you would return it to, or how you would find its rightful owner. I would just call it lucky! Donate a little something to charity if you feel like paying it forward. These things do even out.

I love finding money in my winter coats! I’ve also found other things like a car transmitter.
