October Net Worth

November 1st, 2008 · 10 Comments · Net Worth

This month we took a huge hit in our investment accounts from last month. In last month we lost on average about 15% in the 401k and IRAs.  We only stopped the bleeding because we increased our cash haul.  I hope things start to turn around sooner rather than later.

I have to add something which people might laugh. We did not have any trick or treaters last night!  OMG. I am somewhat embarrassed. I left the light on but this year no carved pumpkin. I wonder if kids were thinking we wouldn’t have any candy because we have no kids?  Anyway I have a bag of candy (peanut M and Ms) and I’m thinking of returning it before I eat the WHOLE thing.  I have no excuse because it’s not even open.

This is the first year we had no one.  For the last few years we’ve had at least 2-3 kids so I feel happy buying candy, but then guilty for eating it. I hope everyone had better luck with candy giving.

We bought four bags of candy bars and had about four kids. Most of our neighbors sat out on their porches to give treats away, so perhaps kids thought we weren’t participating. They just walked past our house, sometimes across the lawn. My DH took all the leftover candy to his office and said you wouldn’t believe how quickly it got devoured. LOL

I abstained from handing out candy because I only had two kids last year and they were both bigger than me and a little scary. As it turned out, my building was full of trick or treaters, so I missed out. Bummer. I did, however, go see the local little kid parade at 6:00, and that was fun.

We didn’t hand out candy this year. We went to our neighbors house and partied with the adults, then took the kids trick or treating. The kids had a great time!

Of course, our neighbors ran out of candy, so we emptied my daughters pumpkin in their stash to hand out. There is no way my 2 year old needs that much candy and if it is at my house I will end up eating it!

We didn’t hand out candy this year either. We went to a costume party, and then out clubbing. Woo hoo! ;-)

I have all of my 457 in the 2045 Vanguard fund and I just opened my statement today to see a -26% difference….. Depressing as all h*ll….. ;-(

LAL, I see that you have a few different savings accounts, like BOA, HSBC and MM. Why the 3 different ones instead of just one account with BOA (or other institution of choice)? Just wondering.

Sitting out on the porch would’ve probably done it..

    Better luck next year!!

Right now I’m sitting on my couch, eating my leftover Halloween candy and watching “The Biggest Loser”. Hmmm….what’s wrong with that picture?!! I’m going to do my end-of-the-year debt difference figures but I may skip the assets. I don’t want to get too discouraged!

We bought 10 bags of candy and ran out!!! We had lots of people coming in from other neighborhoods to trick or treat in our area because we have such a high number of people who give out candy.

Wow, I’m not alone in being a no-show with candy. Yes! I have no porch to sit on really.

BofA is a checking account, HSBC is a savings account, and the MM is a cash fund with our investment account. I use the HSBC to hold cash for tuition usually and our savings.
