I also decided to close the poll do you give the homeless money? It was also very interesting.
Do you give to the homeless money?
- No (56%, 30 Votes)
- Sometimes (30%, 16 Votes)
- Yes, but only to homeless shelter (11%, 6 Votes)
- Yes (4%, 2 Votes)
Total Voters: 54
It appears the majority of people prefer to not give the homeless money and after the reasoning much like mine they aren’t sure what it is going for. Thus I believe many people prefer to give to food banks and homeless shelters.

I didn’t participate in the poll, and I do not give the homeless money “directly” but I do participate with some of the local shelters in my area by donating my time (giving flu shots to men and women at the shelters), and also by donating clothing and personal care items to the YWCA women’s shelters and the Salvation Army men’s shelter. I know from my professional experience that many of the men in shelters are veterans and also many have mental illness and they are not accessing resources available to them, or are not eligible for resources. I believe that there are very few that are just plain “too lazy” to get up off of their feet and rebuild their lives. It breaks my heart when it is a veteran who is homeless, because many times before they went to war they had a “normal” life with a wife or significant other, a job, a home. Then they come back and they just can’t let the war go and have mental health issues that need to be addressed and treated.

I walked past the Starbucks in North Hollywood, where there were at least 4-5 same homeless people standing at the bus stop asking for change. After they had collected enough change, one of them would go inside of that Starbucks and order each of them a Venti latte. Venti latte mind you, not just venti normal coffee, but Starbucks Venti Lattes.
