I really would love to see Yankee Stadium and a game there this season. But currently people are asking on stubhub, ebay, craigslist about 2-4x the going price of tickets. I’m wondering why such high prices when there seems to be an oversupply of tickets?
I get the supply and demand pricing of tickets to events, but I feel like many of these people are scalpers. Today I bought tickets to a Red Sox game for face value. I bought it off of a person who has season tickets and can’t use it. So they broke even.
The truth is I’ve gotten many tickets to games at face value from craigslist. I am not sure if the demand really there for people to ask so much for tickets? They do realize that if they don’t take an offer that they will end up eating the cost of the ticket? It’s better to recoup any of the cost than none at all?
I guess the real truth is that I’ve been looking at Craigslist and emailing people. And people have emailed me back regarding my ad for 2 tickets, but are asking way to much. So I politely declined. More than a few have offered me a “deal” but I’ve refused. Leaving me to wonder, how hard and long will they play this game?
The game I want is this Saturday. I figure the longer I keep waiting the more the price drops, since I’ve been watching tickers for over a month. I have to wonder what happens when the day of the game dawns and the tickets aren’t sold yet?
FWIW, I went to another game and got tickets again for face value at the last minute.

I used to like going to see Cubs games in person. The feeling of being at Wrigley Field is like no other. Everything has inflated in price though and a day at the ballpark can cost beyond $100 easily. Now I just watch the games at home on my nice HDTV and it makes it much easier to watch the game.
I’ve never been to an NFL game. It would be fun to go to a Bears game but even the face value of those tickets, I don’t have $200 laying around for that. I’ll watch those at home too as I have always done for years.
Glad you got some tickets though.

When I lived in Toronto, we would go to the SkyDome about 30 minutes after a Jays game had started and buy great seats from the scalpers for next to nothing- sometimes $5 for tickets with face values of over $50. Once the game starts, their supply of tickets is useless. Sure, we’d miss the first two innings, but we got to see the rest of the game and have money left over for overpriced stadium beer.

Yankee stadium is being torn down at the end of this season, and a lot of people are paying up for tickets b/c it’s the last few chances (season being almost over) to see a game at this historic stadium. That’s why the prices are going for 2-4x… which seems kind of cheap actually when I think about all the people I know who are dying to see a game there before they tear it down this year.

Turns out I got tickets for face the day before. And yep I am starting to enjoy scalpers. Although, I wonder if the tickets are real when I see them.
