August 2008 Net Worth

August 31st, 2008 · No Comments · Net Worth

This month we rolled over DH’s old 401k into a Rollover IRA.  It took us a year to do it. Mostly because my DH said he would do it, but never did so I finally did all the paperwork and arranged everything online.

However our net worth increased by a miniscule .10%.  Why?  Well we increased our student loand debt by $4250 to $21250 total thus far.  We we get the other $4250 in January 2009.  However we are done with tuition until January 2009.  With the $4250, we paid a matching $4000 for Fall 2008 semester.

Our retirement again lost money $259 or -.28%, though we are still contributing the maximum to it monthly.  I am still hopeful of breaking $100k by the end of the year.  If not, we’ll contribute $10k in January 2009 and should break that $100k barrier.  Boy does it seem far, far away.

As far as our spending goes we took two vacations to Montreal for 4 days and Maine for 5 days in August.  Shorter trips closer to home this year because of the weakness of the dollar.  We spent $1022 for the 5 days in Maine including $120 for gas and $600 for the cabin.  Not a bad deal for the week and we ate like kings in Maine, mostly seafood and lobster and local microbrews.

Overall we didn’t spend much on groceries $116 and $250 for eating out, with $90 going towards a restaurant week dinner with friends.  If not for that one meal it would have been a lot more reasonable.  Not a terrible month, but hopefully we’ll take one more trip next month to New York to see Yankee Stadium.

Our goal is to keep building up our cash reserves.
