Wow, I’m glad we keep a large buffer in our checking account. It appears that we’ve had an ultra spendy month and it’s coming to bite us in the rear. It also means we have to cut back and start refilling a lot of our savings categories.
Couple of major Expenses $625 for car insurance, previously it was withdrawn monthly but I switched and paid in full to a new company. Not a huge deal but slightly unexpected. We bought our novaform mattress for $785 which we love, spent $1k on a weekend Montreal Trip, $400 A/C repairs, $3k tuition (preplanned and budgeted), $575 for a cabin in Maine for a week, and probably$1k in painting the house. We ended up repairing a bunch of cracks in the walls of the house and painting and doing other home repairs. An old home is a contstantly being repaired home. Wish there were new homes in the area, but it’ll never happen.
Another downside of home repair is more than just supplies and time, it’s also getting lazy and eating out for the weekend instead of cooking because you are tired. And forgetting this and that and running back and forth to the store. Arrgh.
We also spent another $500 on DH’s Ford Focus, but this time it wasn’t his fault. My aunt broke his seat while visiting and we just hadn’t had time to get it estimated until now. And no I’m not asking my aunt for money.
I guess I should be happy that it’s only been one bad month.

At least repairing your own home is probably cheaper than hiring someone. It sounds to me like you’re still doing great; best wishes in replenishing your cash!

True but spending tons of money is never easy.
