A question asked by a fellow blogger was “How neatly do you keep your wallet? And does it say something about your financial habits?”
Hmmm..interesting question. I am pretty messy person in general. Truth be told I have to work really hard with my DH to keep our house neat. I leave things in piles all over the house because I get distracted and forgot about what I was doing. It’s called being absentminded.
My morning routine includes wandering around the house for my wallet and keys. Thus I guess it’s not surprising that I keep a very messy wallet. That when I pay for things, I just shove the change, receipt, cash, everywhere. And then I run into trouble. Ouch.
I know I’ve lost cash, quite a bit in my lifetime from rushing around and being absentminded. Probably this one habit has steered me to using a credit card/debit card because I have a tendency to shove the cash into my pocket and forget about. My DH laughs when I check out my winter coats and clothes and find $20 bills, car remote (been looking for that for over a year!), lip gloss, and change. Awesome. Not so awesome I couldn’t find them earlier.
So I’m on the side that having a messy wallet does not mean you are financially irresponsible. But I can see how people might have the argument that those with neat wallets are financially more responsible than people who lose things. It’s a matter of organization.
Fortunately for me I’ve got OCD about bill paying, and all bills are electronic. I can’t recall how many times I’ve lost a paper bill only to find it months later. However, since I keep only electronic copies of everything, all my bills are paid on time.

Well I am quite organized, and so is may wallet. I used to believe that ‘Organized means financially responsible’, but my hubby is exactly opposite of it. When you said running around the house to find the wallet and keys, I could picture him. And thanks to all his messy habits, we generally lose some currency everymonth, because he will keep them in a way that makes them unusable further. I’ll send this article to him, may be he can get motivated

Maybe but it doesn’t mean bad financial skills.

I totally agree with you! (And I’m glad I’m not the only messy woman around.) Anyhow, I read your article in the Carnival and I’ve also linked it to my own post.
