What’s gas costing you?

July 2nd, 2008 · 2 Comments · Economy, cars, recession

Third post today I must be on a roll.  Actually this is in preparement for the long weekend, I’m praying to be able to go away for the weekend and while it might cost a lot (gas for driving) it’ll be well worth it.

So this article caught my eye in USA Today about high gas prices shutting down rural towns.  The article says that people living in rural areas pay more for gas and goods because of the cost of shipping.  This is true, you pay more in Hawaii because everything is shipped.  But of course incomes in these areas are typically lower.

This is a neat image. It shows gas as a percentage of income.

Last month, I spent $180 on gas. I will be getting reimbursed mileage from my company — $75 back. But the amount they reimburse is more than what it really cost me to drive, so I’m not really sure how to calculate this.
