So following along the same line of thought about salaries, I was asked again over email “How much do you make?” In fact here’s the questions.
I found your post about “how much do you make?” interesting. My goal for asking the question was not to judge you; but, to determine how you allocate your income to savings, paying off debt, etc. Perhaps if others knew this your monthly status reports could actually help people by allowing others to putthings into perspective for their own situation. Otherwise, I’m not sure how many people care (including myself) about how much debt you can pay off or put away for retirement. Right now it appears as if you are bragging or gloating.Who really cares about you sharing your personal finances if it can’t help anybody?
So am I really not helping everyone by putting all my numbers out there? Do I really need to? I put down as you’ve noticed here our real budget. While there are no cold hard numbers I use % of what I think our income is. Why? Because I am not sure what our income is after bonuses, investment returns etc. However I do pure salary. I know I reveal blurps here and there depending on the situation. But otherwise I talk about money in general topics.
But why should I put it out there? I like my anonymity. Maybe it’ll turn off some readers, but in the blog world most of us prefer our anonymity. I have been asked to be interviewed at a couple of different magazines but I’ve refused because I have no intention of revealing myself of my DH. Though a few bloggers know my name and can if they so choose look me up, the overall population is relatively anonymous.
I think that’s why people blog. Because they can’t talk about salaries in real life to others WITHOUT it seeming like bragging, self-importance, or superiority. Hence writing on this blog allows me to share my thoughts, views, and experiences without fear of repercussions. If you don’t like it, then don’t read it.
But otherwise it’s more like a journal. Insight into the feelings and thoughts of a twenty-something DINK planning for a financially free future.

Yup. Anonymity = required but I wonder if I’d ever reveal my ID in the future…. more than likely not
There’d be a new blog and I’d pretend FB never existed
