March 2008 Wrap Up

April 4th, 2008 · 1 Comment · Net Worth

It was a really good month for us investment wise and spending wise.  However we did have a few big expenses.

First our cash and stock positions increased by $4200.  Our retirement went up by $3400, which while it was mostly contributions, I’ve very happy we are at $78k.  After all the first three months of 2008 have been rocky in the stock market.  And of course we decreased our mortgage by $702.  Overall we increased our net worth by $8397 or 3.82%.  Our current net worth is $228k.  Not terrible, and by next month we should be closing in on $85k in retirement and a larger net worth.  I plan on trying to finish our contributions to our 2008 Roth IRAs, currently we’ve contributed $3k.  Unfortunately due to car repairs, we might not be able to finish the $7k I had been planning on contributing.

Our spending was a roller coaster for March.  We spent $1250 on repairs to our 2000 Ford Focus.  It included 3 new rims, new thermostat, and new serpentine belt   Unfortunately our misfortunes with our Ford Focus continued and we will have more repairs in April.  However we spent $66 on gas for the month because I rarely drove and tried to solely use public transit.

But we spent only $146 on groceries and $144 on eating out.  A tremendous step in savings.  But our freezer again is nearly empty and we did eat a lot out of the pantry.  So I’m assuming this first weekend in April we’ll spend $200 at Costco possibly buying meats to stockpile.

One indulgence in March was buying Super Smash Brothers and Resident Evil for the Wii.  We spent about $80 on video games.  I can’t say we’ve really played enough to be worth it, but my husband does love the games.

We also indulged in purchasing clothes.  We actually shoes, I bought 2 pairs of shoes for $100 and medically necessary inserts @ $30/each.

But overall a pretty great month!
